Studium Smart library app

Developing a digital library for religious scholars.

Goal

Studium Catholicum is a cultural centre for religious research.

Along with their material digitization efforts in 2018 they wanted to bring their library services available in app stores.

Their goal for the application was to not only offer browsing and lending of materials, but also audio lectures, donations and social media features.

To comply with non-disclosure agreements, I have omitted or altered any confidential information about the project.

The work

My role was to design the application and manage its development.

The work included:

Planning and budgeting development milestones
Designing the application logo, styling and marketing aspects for 'Studium Smart'
Mapping out the customer user flows and designing service features, including a news feed, browsing and lending of library materials, listening to audio lectures, and making donations
Designing a web-based admin panel for managing application contents
Outsourcing and managing development
Creating milestone presentations and gathering feedback from the client team

Takeaways

The highlight of the project was active, two-way communication with the client about product goals and needs
It's challenging to integrate Facebook's social features into a hybrid application without compromising on user experience
Learned to better communicate about scope creep and budget management using value/effort mapping
Learned to avoid 3rd party APIs without proper documentation in future projects
